The globefish, one of the most interesting sea creatures, is known for swallowing water to blow itself up and keep its enemies away and for releasing venom to defend itself in case of danger. You can see this medium sized globefish, whose scientific name is “Arothron Meleagris”, up close in Istanbul Akvaryum.

Arothron Meleagris is found in the Indo-Pacific and Eastern Pacific Ocean and lives mostly in coral-rich reef and lagoons in tropical regions. The living areas range from depths of 3 to 24 meters. This globefish mostly feeds on seaweed, mollusks, sponges, corals, starfish and sea urchins and it can reach a weight of 1.6 kilos. Its average life expectancy is 10 years.
